Educational visits
Unique educational experiences at Rewilding Coombeshead
Shelter Building
Year 5 and 6 children from Clawton Primary School had a wonderful time with Tom and Kimberley at Beer Mill Farm. They learnt about the Roman and Celts and how they lived a nomadic life. They built dens in the woods using branches and tarpaulins and tested these for wind, water and wolves! It was a great morning and we had lots of very happy children.
We offer a number of training and educational opportunities onsite, with spaces to suit different group sizes. Our courses usually combine elements of classroom learning with field studies, generally on our 400 acre site, but also with occasional site visits further afield. Courses are available to suit everyone from professionals to those wanting to broaden their knowledge. We are also able to accommodate university and school groups, and can tailor our content to their specific educational aims. Our on-site camping and accommodation allow for multi-day stays.
We are the lead water vole training provider for CIEEM. Our unique water vole handling facility and on site water vole population provide a fantastic opportunity for practical and theoretical tuition. If your company require training in specific water vole disciplines please contact us to discuss an individually tailored course.
Alongside our own in-house beaver courses, we host Mammal Society/Beaver Trust Beaver Ecology & Conservation training, led by leading experts in the field. With our wild beaver population, beaver enclosures, plus beaver holding facility, we are uniquely situated to provide the most in-depth insight into beaver ecology and management to a broad range of clientele.
We regularly hold Practical Rewilding courses on site. With our own rewilding area, and our expertise as an advisory consultancy to other rewilding projects across the country, there is no better place to learn the ins and outs of rewilding in all of its iterations. With small groups we are able to devote plenty of time to each customer and their individual needs.
We can also offer bespoke training to suit your needs, drawing on our expertise in rewilding, species reintroductions, land management, and species specific knowledge. Please get in contact if you wish to discuss.
We visited in early April with about 20 second year undergraduates and had a really interesting day out exploring the breeding centre and rewilding site. Not only was this a great opportunity to see rewilding in action, but it also provided valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities linked to ongoing rewilding of our landscape. Our guides were really knowledgeable and we were made to feel very welcome on the site. Access to the site was surprisingly straightforward by coach, so we really hope to return with future cohorts of students.
Pond dipping
Children from Clawton Primary School had a wonderful time pond dipping with Tom and Tay at Beer Mill Farm. They found many different creatures and hundreds of newts! It was lovely to see them outside enjoying the nature around them and learning about the wildlife. A massive thank you to DGC for allowing us access to this fantastic site which is right on our doorstep!
