FAQ’s

 How Fit Do I need to be?
Visitors need to be relatively fit and mobile to take part in the guided walks as some areas are over rugged terrain. Access to shepherd huts and viewing platforms are from steps.

Can I bring my children?
Unfortunately, due to the nature of our site it is unsuitable for small children for health and safety reasons.  We do welcome guests with well-behaved children of 10 years and over. However please note, we do not provide additional activities for them and they need to be supervised at all times. All guests will need to quiet during the Beaver watches.

Can I bring my Pets?
Unfortunately, due to the animals on site, dogs are not allowed.

What are the Rules on Site?
Although we want everyone to have an enjoyable stay, for the safety and enjoyment of everyone we have the following on site rules:

• You must not enter the rewilding area without the supervision of one of the ecologists.
• No children under 10 staying OR visiting you on site
• No pets
• No collecting wood from local area
• No music (only the sound of nature)
• No noise after 11pm

Is there a minimum stay?
We have a minimum of 2 nights stay.

For ease of operation, we offer two check in days for accommodation – Wednesday and Friday. Check in is from 3pm onwards on these days. Could you please inform us of your arrival time so we know when to expect you and try and arrive before dark so not to disturb other guests and so it is easier to locate your accommodation. We will be on site most of the time if you need anything else and are always available at our office or on the phone if you need us in an emergency.  You will find a campsite map within your information pack in your accommodation, at our site office or within the communal area.

Where are Toilets and Showers?
There are two eco toilets and two heated showers available on site near to the shepherd huts and an additional toilets and showers in the camping area.

Is there a Communal Area?
We have a communal area for all visitors to the site. The area is situated in a large barn at the top of the site.  It features a seating area, pizza oven, a BBQ/fire pit, running water and usb charging points. The communal area is a great place to mix with fellow guests, make a cup of tea or have lunch. This space is available for hire.

What about Campfires and Barbeques?
BBQs and fire pits are allowed providing the weather has not been exceptionally dry. Fires should only take place in the firepits provided. Wood is available to buy from the site office. There is also a large BBQ and pizza oven in the communal areas, which guests are welcome to share.

Can I buy Provisions on Site?
You can buy extra wood from the site office, Derek’s books and Rewilding Coombeshead merchandise. You will need to bring all your food and drink ( the taps are drinking water) There is a local farm shop and small store in Lifton or Launceston for supermarkets. 

Can we feed the animals?
NO – The free-roaming livestock and other wildlife are not domesticated or conventional farm animals, in order for them to behave as naturally as they can we ask that our guests do not try to touch or feed the animals. 

What’s included and what do I need to bring?
Shepherd’s huts are equipped with beds, bedding, towels, and and outdoor kitchen stocked with cooking utensils, pans and a gas burner. Tea and coffee are provided.  The campsite is equipped with a shower and a composting toilet. The price for staying at Coombeshead includes a complimentary Animal Encounters Tour. Other tours are available including wildlife walks, and beaver watching. A pair of binoculars, and sturdy walking boots and wellies (the site can become very wet at certain times of year) are a must. 

Are there tables and chairs?
The communal area has tables and chairs, and a wooden bench outside each of the shepherd huts. For those wishing to sit outside their tents – please bring your own. There are picnic tables around the camping field.

Is my property secure?
The campsite and shepherd’s huts are on privately owned land. The Shepherd’s huts can be locked. For those camping, however, as with any holiday destination we would recommend that you take any valuables with you when you leave the campsite.

How many cars can I bring and can we park next to the tent / huts?
Please keep the number of cars you bring to a minimum, although there is car parking space. You cannot park next to the tents or huts, but the parking area is close.

What time can I arrive?
Guests can arrive at any time after 3pm but please note we often have night-time tours or talks in the evenings so we would recommend arrival by 6pm. However, if a late arrival time cannot be avoided, please just let us know so that someone can be there to greet you upon arrival or advise you on where to go. 

What time do I need to leave?
Shepherds Hut guests should check out by 10am on their day of departure.  Campsite guests can check out at 11am.
