Rewilding Coombeshead is famous for our ecosystem engineers, the beavers. Beavers are a powerhouse of ecological restoration, the wetlands they create become a thriving biodiverse ecosystem bringing back insects, amphibians, fish, birds and small mammals.

We were the first site in England to reintroduce beavers, a keystone species, in a groundbreaking enclosed release just over ten years ago. Our beavers are well established with our beaver tours a firm favourite with visitors to Rewilding Coombeshead. The incredible postitive impact they have had on our local environment is astounding.

We spoke to RWCH ecologist, Tay Davies, about the beavers, ecosystem engineers and keystone species, integral to the ecological restoration that has taken place.
